Read, Cook, Eat

Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome

I finally sat down and created The Literary Vegan exactly two months after my husband and I fully embraced the vegan lifestyle. Veganism simultaneously answered our collective health prayers and thoroughly awakened my long-dormant passion for cooking.

My husband and I are big "foodies," as well as avid travelers, so neither of us would like anything better than exploring the world, sampling cuisines of all cultures. Unfortunately, saving for our family's future costs money, so we don't get to travel as much as we would like... so when I am confined to my own home town (Vienna, Virginia), although pretty great itself, I rely on books to help my mind and imagination do the traveling.  

I read about a book or two a month, and a few weeks into my newfound veganism I began to notice that the food I was making was mirroring aspects of the stories I was reading. Unbeknownst to me, there was a direct correlation between the cultures/locations/food described in the book and what I was cooking up in my kitchen each day. So here I am, putting everything down in print.

At the beginning of each month, I will choose a book from my favorite local bookstore and create a recipe each week that I will post here on my blog. These recipes will be directly inspired by the books, but will of course be made with a 100% vegan twist.
