Such a Fun Age - Recipe 7

Before moving to Philadelphia, Alix and her posh NYC friends drink and spill secrets about their pasts over a large pizza.

“I just…” Kelley sighed. “I think it would be best… if we went our separate ways? And that those paths never again… connected” Tamara leaned into the table. “He said what?” “That was the line he used, I swear to God,” Alix said. […] Alix took a long pull of her wine and threw another slice of pizza on her plate. Tamara said, “Ooh, Alix, I’d have to kill that boy.” — (Excerpt from Ch.8)

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoons salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon Instant or Rapid-rise yeast

  • 3/4 cup cold water

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil + more to oil your hands and dough (about 1 tsp)

  • Pizza sauce (or marinara sauce)

  • Vegan mozzarella cheese shreds of choice (I used Violife)

  • Your favorite pizza toppngs (I absolutely love Yves vegan pepperoni)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl or Kitchen Aid mixer with bread hook attachment, stir together flour and salt. Add yeast and stir again.

  2. Add water slowly, and continue to mix until a sticky dough forms into a ball, coming away from the sides of the bowl.

  3. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap and let it sit for at least 6 hours.

  4. Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

  5. Add 1 Tbsp olive oil to a large cast iron pan and tilt until the oil is coating the bottom.

  6. With oiled hands, remove dough from bowl and cover in a thin layer of oil. Place dough in cast iron pan and push around with your fingers so it flattens to fit the size of the pan.

  7. Let dough settle for about 5 min and then add your pizza sauce, cheese, and toppings of choice.

  8. Place the pan on the stove over medium heat and cook until the bottom of the dough begins to brown.

  9. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake for about 20 min, until crust is nicely browned and cheese is melted.

  10. Enjoy!
